Compression Decay Solutions for Swimwear: Common Failure Causes and Fixes

Source:Solutions / Time:2026-09-16

Below are the failure patterns most often seen when compression decay affects swimwear, with the correction for each.

Failure: hidden until worn

the garment loses its support value over the wearing life usually appears after several sessions. Because it develops slowly, it reaches the customer instead of the inspection table. Because the fabric stays wet, stretched and chemically exposed for hours, target checks are made on a worn sample rather than flat fabric alone.

Cause one

elastane fatigued by excessive heat during setting. Keep ISO 13934-1 tensile with cyclic extension named in the tech pack so every lot is measured the same way.

Cause two

repeated extension beyond the design range. Where swimwear is worn for pool training and beach use, set tolerances around that range of movement.

Cause three

poor recovery after chlorine or oil exposure. Any change to nylon and polyester knits at 190-230 GSM with high elastane requires re-testing against above 90% elastic recovery after 20000 cycles before bulk is released.

Correction and prevention

Apply keep setting below the elastane degradation temperature first, then verify against above 90% elastic recovery after 20000 cycles using ISO 13934-1 tensile with cyclic extension. Lock the corrected settings into the bulk recipe so repeat orders behave identically. Past reports from ISO 13934-1 tensile with cyclic extension help the mill reproduce the same recipe on the next order.
